What would happen if you became hospitalized because of illness or injury during your next trip?

This is a question I never asked my clients or myself. I always concentrated on the happiness of vacations. Well…NOW I have a first hand experience of the importance of purchasing
--> MedjetAssist .  This is something you  should purchase and hope you never need to use!

My personal story:

On January 10th, I was on a business trip in the Dominican Republic. I was sent to experience a resort and all the area had to offer. My itinerary for the first day was an ATV excursion to two beaches including a picnic lunch on one of the beaches. Anyone whom knows me, knows I’m not an ATV type of gal but this was for work so I went with the flow.

In the DR, they use ATVs as main transportation like cars and motorcycles. No helmets were provided because in the DR they don’t have the helmet mentality that we have in the United States.

I was on the back of an ATV with the resort reservation manager driving. We went to the first beach and had a lovely time. Around 11am we left the beach to go to the second beach to have a picnic. In route, on a main road, the driver began to pick up speed. We were going up a hill too fast, turned a curve in the road that went into a steep hill with curves in an "S" like shape.

Since she was driving too fast, she could not make the turn in the road and we went off the road into a ravine. My body was thrown from the ATV and eventually I landed on my stomach with the ATV on top of me. I tried so hard to get out from under it but I was trapped and being crushed.

Our group did not realize what took place because we were the last in the line of the ATVs. After a few minutes they realized we were missing. In the meantime, 2 men on a motorcycle drove by and found us. The driver was pretty much fine but she could not lift the ATV off of me. The 2 men were able to lift the ATV off of me. I was taken to the hospital. You can just imagine what this experience with like in a hospital with everyone speaking Spanish and not having the technology that my hospital at home has.

All I wanted to do to was travel home the next day but the flight was at an airport over 2 hours away and since I was in a great deal of pain and in wheelchair it would be very difficult for me to travel home alone.

I had no choice but wait until January 12th to travel home with the group. I arrived back in the USA, a car service picked me up at JFK and drove me straight to my hospital of choice…Hackensack Hospital.

I was admitted to the Trauma ER. I had a full body CatScan and multiple tests. Luckily no broken bones or internal bleeding were found. My ankle, ribs and left section of my back are in the worse shape including tendent, tissue and muscle damage from being crushed. Concussion issues leaving me post-concussive for abut a year. Of course post-traumatic stress disorder from the whole ordeal. The doctor can't believe I survived this accident. He told me that I am a tough cookie and very lucky to be alive.

After going through this accident, I realized the IMPORTANCE of
--> MedjetAssist.   --> MedjetAssist is the premier global air-medical transport membership program in the U.S., operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  --> MedjetAssist membership arranges global air-medical transport for its members who are hospitalized more than 150 miles from their home, both domestic and international, to the hospital of their choice. Benefits also include monitoring of member’s medical condition, 24/7 medical consultation, emergency relay, worldwide medical and legal referrals, translation assistance and transfer of mortal remains.
TIP: While travel insurance and platinum card programs have important benefits, there may be medical evacuation restrictions that could leave you wishing you had additional protection.
--> MedjetAssist closes this gap.

Meadowood: The most luxury resort in Napa Valley that includes activities such as golf, tennis, croquet, hiking, fitness, swimming and wine education. This resort is also the home of a Michelin three-star restaurant. What I LOVE the most about this resort: the experience that begins before you arrive. The staff genuinely wants you to get the most out of your time in the Napa Valley and caters to the pre-arrival service of clients assisting in creating and itinerary full of activities, reservations at wineries and restaurants that will ensure the most wonderful experience!

Poetry Inn: Located on a hillside of the Stags Leap District, this intimate and luxurious Inn gives you the feeling of living in a home with someone there to personally take care of all of your wishes. During my stay, I was EXTREMELY impressed with the accommodations and hospitality, which is rare for someone as picky as me.

Grand Del Mar: This resort, located in Northern San Diego, is a great place for families and couples. Activities such as a kids club, equestrian center, golf course, bocce, croquet, fitness center, spa and four pools offer amenities for everyone to enjoy! The staff at this resort goes above and beyond and truly cares about the happiness of my clients and that means the world to me.

Portrait Suites: Owned by the Ferragamo family and located above the Ferragamo boutique. This luxurious boutique hotel has only 14 suites and a studio, therefore, getting a reservation feels like winning the lottery! One of my favorite touches, that left me with an impression of exclusivity at Portrait Suites, is the locked entry. Everyone must ring the bell and have the door opened by a staff member. This makes it not possible for just anyone to be walking around the hotel. It is for staff members and guests only...totally private!

Hotel Hassler: An absolute landmark in Rome holding the most prestigious location at the top of the Spanish Steps.  Hotel Hassler's reputation is built on their highest quality of service and attention to detail.  My favorite accommodation: The NEW Hassler Penthouse Suite located on the 8th floor complete with Hermes furnishings…ahhhhh LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!

Villa D’Este: This gorgeous resort overlooks the romantic Lake Como. The grounds of the resort are famous for the most beautiful gardens but the most special part of this resort to me is Danilo Zucchetti, General Manager, named Hotelier of the Year at Virtuoso Week in Las Vegas August 2012. Danilo is an experienced hotel manager with an unrelenting passion for the industry, an astute appreciation for detail and a keen sense of how to lead and manage a dynamic team of professionals.

Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa: For couples looking for luxury, privacy and seclusion this boutique resort is the place to stay on the Amalfi Coast. The spa is a special place consisting of a combination of spirituality and tranquility including the traditional Italian bathing within a series of thermal rooms. This resort is something I have never seen before…an exclusive specialty.

Hotel Lungarno and Lungarno Suites: Owned by the Ferragamo Family, these beautiful hotels are located across from each other with the Arno River running between the properties in the perfect location in the walking distance of the Ponte Vecchio. I highly recommend Hotel Lungarno for couples and Lungarno Suites for families.
